Christine Burkland

Associate

“In our industry, there’s no right answer. We work in a world where anything is a possibility. One of the things I enjoy most about the culture of Olson Kundig is the shared openness to trying new things. We all ask each other, ‘What if? Why not?’”

Christine Burkland joined Olson Kundig’s interior design studio in 2006, after years of owning her own practice, and was promoted to Associate in 2020. She has worked across a range of market sectors, including hospitality, mixed-use and higher education, with a focus on residential interior design.

As a frequent collaborator with principal/owner Jim Olson, Christine often develops custom furniture and lighting designs that extend the architectural vision from a building’s form to its inner materiality and texture. She enjoys working closely with clients, project team members, artisans and craftspeople to both share her ideas and learn from theirs. Christine believes strongly in the importance of mentorship and finds this work especially purposeful; she is a former director of the firm’s international internship program and has also taught and guest lectured at the college level. In addition to her work at the firm, Christine has been a dedicated fundraiser for Childhaven – a local organization that works to support families and prevent childhood trauma – for over 35 years.
