Steve Grim

Principal | AIA, LEED AP BD+C

Steve Grim joined Olson Kundig in 2007 and was named Principal in 2020. Steve works across a range of project types, including commercial wineries and distilleries, and residential projects across the country. Steve divided his formative years between the rural farmland of northern Ohio and the coast of California; as a result, his design philosophy is informed by the function-driven ethos of both mid-century modern and traditional agrarian architecture. These influences further fostered his appreciation for design language that centers making and craft.

Steve has worked in a diverse range of climates and landscapes, including tropical Hawaii and coastal California to high-altitude mountain environments in Whistler, BC and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He judges successful design by its ability to relate to the site and surrounding context, while remaining informed by functional connections between interior spaces. Steve enjoys working closely with clients to solve the unique puzzle of each assignment’s context and program. He is adept at synthesizing early client feedback into a coherent design expression that serves the project’s “big picture” vision and goals.
