Boulder Civic Area was an ideas competition that invited design professionals and students to propose creative concepts for the future transformation of Boulder’s most expansive public space into a civic center for the city. The competition was meant to encourage ideas for long and near-term scenarios addressing issues of public space, parkland, land use, community facilities, access, and flood mitigation.
Our design offered two solutions for the civic area—Connect Boulder, a holistic approach, and Artifact, a catalytic project. Our concept was to connect Boulder’s great urban gathering areas, open spaces, icons and events to each other and to nearby areas by pedestrian bridges and walkways to the surrounding city. As a catalyst, the proposed glass pavilions served as an opportunity for the community to showcase a variety of exhibits to attract visitors.
